Very few times in life do we plan something that actually goes better than we expect. Velo has been one of those life experiences for me. On August 2, 2004, I had no idea what would happen as a group of young women met in my home for the first night of our four months of Bible study. At the time it was nothing more than a short-term commitment. Nine months later, as we continued to gain velocity, I decided that if we were going to keep meeting regularly, we should have a name.

One month later, the name Velo was birthed as I sat on the sofa at a friend's house one Saturday afternoon. Let me take you back to my day of discovery as Velo received its name and it became crystal clear of our purpose and destiny as a group.

Caught in a torrential downpour, I became increasingly annoyed as I continued to search for the mystery apartment hosting the cosmetic party. Fifteen minutes late and completely drenched, I entered the front door, which lead directly into the living area. The room was filled to capacity with young ladies, making it impossible for me to avoid unwanted attention.

As I settled into the corner of the sofa, my frustration intensified as I was reminded of the thirty-minute drive back and my never ending to do list that waited patiently. Completely distracted, I was unaware that this would be the day that Velo would receive its name. It would also become a day that I would remember for the rest of my life.

The cosmetic consultant transitioned from the topic of make-up to fragrances. I perked up because my grandmother loved fragrances and at an early age, I caught her enthusiasm.

She began by introducing a new fragrance called Velocity. Immediately a light went off in my cluttered head. "Velocity! That word really speaks to me." I reached inside my rain soaked purse for a pen and paper and wrote down the word.

Later that evening there was a suggestion by a friend to shorten the word Velocity to Velo. "That's it!" I knew instantly that Velo was supposed to be the name of this women’s organization.

Reflecting back, I see God's hand was directing me to choose the name Velo. It was destiny that I now more clearly understand. I had no desire to attend that cosmetic party on a rainy Saturday afternoon, yet I kept my word and went faithfully not realizing that God was going to speak to me. Velo was the perfect name for our group. When we have velocity in our lives, it changes everything. It is challenging to stay consistent in our Christian lives as young women today. We live in a world that impedes every fundamental principle of the word of God, and we need velocity in order to stay focused. When hard times come, if we have been consistent, we've gained so much velocity with God and our relationships with other Christian's that the circumstance won't shake our faith. That is what is making a difference in the lives of the members of Velo.

Around five o'clock on Monday nights, I often wonder what's going to happen, knowing that Velo will meet in two hours. Who will sit in each particular chair? Who will give her life to Christ? Who will leave with the hope and restoration that she came searching for? Regardless of my thoughts, there is one absolute: God will show up!

From a small gathering to a dynamic community of young, progressive women, Velo has experienced significant growth. We come from different cultures and creeds and share a common bond - the drive to move forward with purpose and velocity to reach and fulfill our god-given destinies.

We are members of an authentic tribe of young women who empower our generation and restore us to live lives of purpose and wellness. Our mission is simple: to provide a contemporary community that challenges today's woman to find her purpose and passion in life. By providing encouragement, direction, and relevant teaching, women's lives are enhanced and transformed.

Part of our mission is accomplished by working together to co-author inspirational books. Our first inspirational book was published in September 2006 entitled Velo52 - High Velocity Devotions. Now we are celebrating the publication of this book, Motion - High Velocity Devotions.
